Pier Solar is a solar design business for UK homeowners and small businesses. We design each system around the property. Then we hand a clear specification to a vetted installation partner. This keeps design advice separate from the sales pressure of an install crew.
What we do
We design and specify bespoke solar systems. Our work starts with the roof, the shading and how you use power. Because every property differs, we do not offer a fixed package. Instead, we choose panels, inverters and storage to suit the job.
We do not fit the systems ourselves. MCS-certified installation partners do that work. As a result, you get a design team that can challenge a quote and an installer who is certified for the build. You can read more about our bespoke solar system design and our MCS-certified installations.
How we vet installation partners
We set standards before any partner receives a project. These are policy statements, and every partner must meet them.
- The partner holds MCS certification for solar installation.
- Homeowner work sits under an approved consumer code, such as RECC or HIES.
- The partner follows our written specification, or explains any change in writing.
- Workmanship is covered by the extended warranty that Pier Solar arranges.
MCS is the UK quality mark for small-scale renewable installations such as solar panels. Your installer should give you an MCS certificate within about ten working days of finishing. You normally need that certificate to be paid under the Smart Export Guarantee. Our guides help people make large spending choices. For that reason, we hold them to a clear standard.
We research each guide from primary sources. These include gov.uk, Ofgem, MCS, the Energy Saving Trust, Home Energy Scotland and the Met Office. We list the sources at the end of every guide. If we cannot confirm a claim on a primary source, we leave it out.
Every guide shows a review date. Rules and schemes change often, so we recheck guides when the underlying rules change. Costs are given as ranges with the word "typically", because real quotes depend on the roof and the market.
